AGRICULTURE AND ECONOMIC CHALLENGE IN CONDITIONS OF PANDEMIC

Summary

By 2020, the worldwide pandemic of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected most countries in the world, spreading to 210 countries in two months, injuring more than 4,5 million people and more than 3.5 thousand died (these data are changing daily). The economies of the world's largest countries have fallen into recession, with half the world being forced into isolation. The closure of borders, quarantines, closed markets and, in general, trade delays are particularly affecting countries severely suffered by coronavirus and food insecurity. The shock caused by coronavirus affected all sectors of the economy, including agriculture. It ranks among the industries that are less affected than others, but the consequences of the pandemic will be negative for both agricultural producers and consumers (lack of labor, food security, disruption of the production process, food shortages, rising prices, etc.). But given that no virus can eradicate human demand for food, agriculture is a sustainable source of food. Agriculture is a continuous cycle, it cannot be stopped because of quarantine, when it is time to cultivate, sow, and harvest, and it will not happen in time, even if it is due to a pandemic, the sector will fail and the world will be starved. The article also discusses the state of the industry in the world and in Georgia in the context of the pandemic, the economic challenges of the pandemic period and the general aspects of their solution.
